Confidentiality
Some states recognize a privilege to prevent disclosure of files regarding public aid recipients maintained by the government.{footnote}Ill. Rev. Stat. ch. 23, & 11-9, 11-11. But see Dept. of Public Aid v. Estate of Walls, 81 Ill. App. 3d 394, 401 N.E.2d 639 (5th Dist. 1980) (summary of public aid payments admissible); Bell v. Bankers Life & Casualty Co., 327 Ill. App. 321, 64 N.E.2d 204 (1st Dist. 1945)(statute protecting confidentiality of Public Welfare records does not prevent disclosure pursuant to subpoena, and subsequent admission into evidence).{/footnote}
