As used in this article, the following words and terms shall have the meanings respectively ascribed by this section:

Terms Used In Alabama Code 15-18-66
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- following: means next after. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- person: includes a corporation as well as a natural person. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- property: includes both real and personal property. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- Restitution: The court-ordered payment of money by the defendant to the victim for damages caused by the criminal action.
