  • commission: The Public Service Commission of the State of Alabama. See Alabama Code 23-1-155

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Devise: To gift property by will.
  • Executor: A male person named in a will to carry out the decedent

  • Fiduciary: A trustee, executor, or administrator.
  • Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
  • GOVERNING BODY: Whenever used in relation to any municipality, the body or board, by whatsoever name known, having charge of the governing of a municipality and shall be held to include the mayor or other chief executive officers of such municipality in any case wherein the concurrence or approval of such officer is required by the law governing such municipality for the adoption of any municipal ordinance or resolution or other municipal act provided for in this chapter.   • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.
  • municipality: Any city or town. See Alabama Code 23-1-155
  • oath: includes affirmation. See Alabama Code 30-3D-608
  • personal property: includes money, goods, chattels, things in action and evidence of debt, deeds and conveyances. See Alabama Code 30-3D-608
  • Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government.
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
  • Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
  • United States: includes the territories thereof and the District of Columbia. See Alabama Code 30-3D-608
