Terms Used In Alaska Statutes 28.20.170

  • department: means the Department of Administration. See Alaska Statutes 28.90.990
  • judgment: means a judgment that is final by expiration without appeal of the time within which an appeal may be taken, or final by affirmation on appeal, given by a court of a state or of the United States, upon a cause of action arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of a vehicle of a type subject to registration under the laws of this state, for damages, including damages for care and loss of services, because of bodily injury to or death of a person, or for damages because of injury to or destruction of property, including the loss of use of property, or upon a cause of action on an agreement of settlement for such damages. The department may reduce the amount of security ordered within six months after the date of the accident if in its judgment the amount is excessive. If the security originally ordered is on deposit, the excess deposit over the reduced amount ordered shall be returned immediately to the depositor or the personal representative of the depositor.
