The protection required under this article shall be evidenced by the deposit of any of the following with the bureau covering each vehicle used or to be used under the permit applied for:

(a) A policy of insurance, issued by a company licensed to write such insurance in this state, or by nonadmitted insurers subject to § 1763 of the Insurance Code, if the policies meet the rules and regulations administered by the bureau.

  • Bureau: refers to the Bureau of Household Goods and Services, as established in Section 9810. See California Business and Professions Code 19225.5
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Household mover: includes every corporation or person, their lessees, trustee, receivers, or trustees appointed by any court whatsoever, engaged in the permitted or unpermitted transportation for compensation or hire as a business by means of a motor vehicle or motor vehicles being used in the transportation of used household goods and personal effects over any public highway in this state. See California Business and Professions Code 19225.5
  • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Business and Professions Code 21

(b) A bond of a surety company licensed to write surety bonds in the state.

(c) Any evidence of the qualification of the household mover as a self-insurer as may be authorized by the bureau.
