The Controller may require any person, presenting an account for settlement, to be sworn before him and to answer orally or in writing as to any facts relating to it.

  • Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
  • Person: includes any person, firm, association, organization, partnership, limited liability company, business trust, corporation, or company. See California Government Code 17
  • Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
