(a) Subject to subsection (b) of this section, if an action is brought to enforce a judgment of another jurisdiction expressed in a foreign money and the judgment is recognized in this state as enforceable, the enforcing judgment shall be entered as provided in § 50a-57, whether or not the foreign judgment confers an option to pay in an equivalent amount of United States dollars. A satisfaction or partial payment made upon the foreign judgment, on proof thereof, shall be credited against the amount of foreign money specified in the judgment, notwithstanding the entry of judgment in this state.

  • Action: means a judicial or arbitration proceeding in which an order or award for a money payment may be tendered or enforced. See Connecticut General Statutes 50a-51
  • another: may extend and be applied to communities, companies, corporations, public or private, limited liability companies, societies and associations. See Connecticut General Statutes 1-1
  • Foreign money: means money other than money of the United States of America. See Connecticut General Statutes 50a-51
  • Foreign-money claim: means a claim upon an obligation to pay, or a claim for recovery of a loss, expressed in or measured by a foreign money. See Connecticut General Statutes 50a-51
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Money: means a medium of exchange for the payment of debts or other obligations, or a store of value authorized or adopted by a domestic or foreign government or by intergovernmental agreement. See Connecticut General Statutes 50a-51

(b) A judgment entered on a foreign-money claim only in United States dollars in another state of the United States shall be enforced in this state by a judgment in United States dollars only.
