  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

article 17.

The commissioner is hereby authorized to:

1. Institute or cause to be instituted in a court of competent jurisdiction proceedings to compel compliance with the provisions of titles 1 through 11 inclusive and title 19 of article 17 or the determinations and orders of the commissioner.

2. Settle or compromise, with the approval of the Attorney General, any action or cause of action for the recovery of a penalty under titles 1 through 11 inclusive and title 19 of article 17 as he may deem advantageous to the state.
