Terms Used In Florida Statutes 110.2135

  • Department: means the Department of Management Services. See Florida Statutes 110.107
  • Employing agency: means any agency authorized to employ personnel to carry out the responsibilities of the agency under the provisions of chapter 20 or other law. See Florida Statutes 110.107
  • Position: means the work, consisting of duties and responsibilities, assigned to be performed by an officer or employee. See Florida Statutes 110.107
  • Promotion: means the changing of the classification of an employee to a broadband level having a higher maximum salary; or the changing of the classification of an employee to a broadband level having the same or a lower maximum salary but a higher level of responsibility. See Florida Statutes 110.107
  • veteran: means a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under honorable conditions only or who later received an upgraded discharge under honorable conditions, notwithstanding any action by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs on individuals discharged or released with other than honorable discharges. See Florida Statutes 1.01

(1) Preference in employment, reemployment, promotion, and retention shall be given to an eligible veteran pursuant to ss. 295.07, 295.08, 295.085, and 295.09 as long as the veteran meets the minimum eligibility requirements and has the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the particular position.
(2) A disabled veteran employed as the result of being placed at the top of the appropriate employment list under the provisions of s. 295.08 or s. 295.085 shall be appointed for a probationary period of 1 year. At the end of such period, if the work of the veteran has been satisfactorily performed, the veteran will acquire permanent employment status and will be subject to the employment rules of the Department of Management Services and the veteran’s employing agency.
