  • Power of attorney: A written instrument which authorizes one person to act as another's agent or attorney. The power of attorney may be for a definite, specific act, or it may be general in nature. The terms of the written power of attorney may specify when it will expire. The agent for the power of attorney for special education or educational representative is authorized to make educational decisions for a student and has the same rights as the student to request, receive, examine, copy, and consent to the disclosure of the individualized education plan or any other educational records.
