Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 445-95.3

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • rooming house: means any building or portion thereof containing no more than nine rooming units, in which space is let by the owner or operator to three or more unrelated persons. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 445-90

The director of the department of human services may examine and investigate the affairs of every person, partnership, corporation, or other organization engaged in the rooming house business in this State in order to determine whether any unfair or deceptive practice prohibited by section 445-95.1 has been committed.
