Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 25 ILCS 5/5

  • Impeachment: (1) The process of calling something into question, as in "impeaching the testimony of a witness." (2) The constitutional process whereby the House of Representatives may "impeach" (accuse of misconduct) high officers of the federal government for trial in the Senate.
  • sworn: shall be construed to include the word "affirmed. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.12
     In all cases of trials of impeachment, or other trials before the senate, the president, secretary, or any member of the senate, shall have power to administer oaths or affirmations to the members, witnesses, or any other person required to be sworn.
