Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 305 ILCS 5/12-21.1

  • Advice and consent: Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate, and international treaties become effective only when the Senate approves them by a two-thirds vote.
  • County board: means the board of county commissioners in counties not under township organization, and the board of supervisors in counties under township organization, and the board of commissioners of Cook County. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.07
  • Presiding officer: A majority-party Senator who presides over the Senate and is charged with maintaining order and decorum, recognizing Members to speak, and interpreting the Senate's rules, practices and precedents.
     Supervisors of general assistance in counties not under township organization – Other staffing. In counties not under township organization, the presiding officer of the county board, with the advice and consent of the County Board, shall designate a Supervisor of General Assistance for the county and appoint such other employees as may be necessary to provide public aid under Article VI. The County Board shall prescribe the compensation and duties of the Supervisor and other employees.
