Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 40 ILCS 5/13-307

  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Month: means a calendar month, and the word "year" a calendar year unless otherwise expressed; and the word "year" alone, is equivalent to the expression "year of our Lord. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.10
  • Surviving spouse: means "widow" or "widower" as the case may be. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.32
     Whenever a retirement or surviving spouse annuity is less than $200 per month, it may be converted to a term annuity in the amount of $200 per month to be paid for such period as is determined in accordance with actuarial tables adopted by the Board.
