Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 430 ILCS 27/30

  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
     The circuit court is vested with the jurisdiction specifically to enforce this Act, and prevent or restrain any person from violating any provisions of this Act. A successful action for compliance under this Section may also require payment by the defendant of the costs incurred by the Council in bringing the action.
