Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 250/10

  • Advice and consent: Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate, and international treaties become effective only when the Senate approves them by a two-thirds vote.
  • Oath: A promise to tell the truth.
  • oath: shall be deemed to include an affirmation, and the word "sworn" shall be construed to include the word "affirmed. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.12
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     Any officer appointed by the Governor shall before entering into the duties of his office, qualify for the office by taking and subscribing the constitutional oath of office and filing the signed oath with the Secretary of State. Nothing herein shall be construed to alter or eliminate any requirement established by law that such officer receive the advice and consent of the Senate.
