Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 625 ILCS 45/6-2

  • Common law: The legal system that originated in England and is now in use in the United States. It is based on judicial decisions rather than legislative action.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     The operator of a watercraft is liable for any injury or damage occasioned by the negligent operation of such watercraft, whether such negligence consists of a violation of the provisions of the Statutes of this State, or in the failure to observe such ordinary care in such operation as the rules of the common law require.
