Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 65 ILCS 5/11-102-1

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     Every municipality with a population of 500,000 or more may establish and maintain public airports, upon (1) any land either within or outside the corporate limits of the municipality, (2) any public waters of the State of Illinois within the limits or jurisdiction of or bordering on the municipality, (3) any submerged land under such public waters, and (4) any artificial or reclaimed land which before the artificial making or reclamation thereof constituted a portion of the submerged land under such public waters.
