  • Clerk of court: An officer appointed by the court to work with the chief judge in overseeing the court's administration, especially to assist in managing the flow of cases through the court and to maintain court records.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
     When it appears by the return of the officer that any defendant or the property described in the order or any part thereof, is not found, additional certified copies directing the officer to summon such defendant and to take the property from the possession of the defendant and deliver the same to the plaintiff, may be issued by the clerk of court on the request of the plaintiff until such defendant is served or until such property is taken.
