Terms Used In Indiana Code 34-51-5-1

  • Tort: A civil wrong or breach of a duty to another person, as outlined by law. A very common tort is negligent operation of a motor vehicle that results in property damage and personal injury in an automobile accident.
  • Verdict: The decision of a petit jury or a judge.
   Sec. 1. In a tort action for personal injuries tried by a jury, the court shall, if requested, instruct the jury that the jury may not consider the tax consequences, if any, of its verdict.
