Terms Used In Indiana Code > Title 4 > Article 33 > Chapter 5 - Disclosure of Records

  • Attorney: includes a counselor or other person authorized to appear and represent a party in an action or special proceeding. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
  • Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
  • Bankruptcy: Refers to statutes and judicial proceedings involving persons or businesses that cannot pay their debts and seek the assistance of the court in getting a fresh start. Under the protection of the bankruptcy court, debtors may discharge their debts, perhaps by paying a portion of each debt. Bankruptcy judges preside over these proceedings.

  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • minor: means a person less than eighteen (18) years of age. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
  • Nolo contendere: No contest-has the same effect as a plea of guilty, as far as the criminal sentence is concerned, but may not be considered as an admission of guilt for any other purpose.
  • policy: means a policy of accident and sickness insurance (as defined in IC 27-8-5-1). See Indiana Code 27-8-34-3
  • policy of accident and sickness insurance: refers to a policy of accident and sickness insurance (as defined in IC 27-8-5-1) that provides coverage for anatomical gifts, transplantation, or related health care services. See Indiana Code 27-8-35-4
  • policy of accident and sickness insurance: has the meaning set forth in IC 27-8-5-1. See Indiana Code 27-8-35.5-4
  • policy of accident and sickness insurance: has the meaning set forth in IC 27-8-5-1, offered on an individual or group basis. See Indiana Code 27-8-37-1

  • telehealth services: means health care services delivered by use of technology allowed under Indiana Code 27-8-34-5
