Terms Used In Iowa Code 327D.27

  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Railway: means a railroad as defined in subsection 3. See Iowa Code 327D.2
  • Rates: means fares, tariffs, tolls, charges, and all classifications, contracts, practices and rules of common carriers relating to such rates. See Iowa Code 327D.2
  • Transportation: means all instrumentalities of shipment or carriage as well as services in connection with the actual transport. See Iowa Code 327D.2
 Any corporation making any unjust discrimination as to freight rates, or the rates for the use and transportation of railway cars, or in receiving, handling, or delivering freight, shall, upon conviction, be subject to a schedule “four” penalty; or shall be subject to the liability prescribed in section 327D.28, to be recovered as therein provided.
