Terms Used In Iowa Code 455E.4

  • Contamination: means the direct or indirect introduction into groundwater of any contaminant caused in whole or in part by human activities. See Iowa Code 455E.2
  • Groundwater: means any water of the state, as defined in section 455B. See Iowa Code 455E.2
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" may include the said district and territories. See Iowa Code 4.1
  • Use: means to operate, navigate, or employ a vessel. See Iowa Code 462A.2
 The intent of the state is to prevent contamination of groundwater from point and nonpoint sources of contamination to the maximum extent practical, and if necessary to restore the groundwater to a potable state, regardless of present condition, use, or characteristics.
