1. A person shall not hunt deer with firearms unless the person is at the time wearing one or more of the following articles of visible, external apparel, the color and material of which shall be solid blaze orange: A vest, coat, jacket, sweatshirt, sweater, shirt, or coveralls.

Terms Used In Iowa Code 481A.122

  • Department: means the department of natural resources. See Iowa Code 481A.1
  • following: when used by way of reference to a chapter or other part of a statute mean the next preceding or next following chapter or other part. See Iowa Code 4.1
  • Game: means all of the animals specified in this subsection except those designated as not protected, and includes the heads, skins, and any other parts, and the nests and eggs of birds and their plumage. See Iowa Code 481A.1
  • hunt: is a ny pursuing, or any hunting, fishing, killing, trapping, snaring, netting, searching for or shooting at, stalking or lying in wait for any game, animal, bird, or fish protected by the state laws or rules adopted by the commission whether or not such animal be then subsequently captured, killed, or injured. See Iowa Code 481A.1
  • Person: shall mean any person, firm, partnership, or corporation. See Iowa Code 481A.1
 2. A person shall not hunt upland game birds, as defined by the department, unless the person is at the time wearing one or more of the following articles of visible, external apparel, the color and material of which shall be at least fifty percent solid blaze orange: A hat, cap, vest, coat, jacket, sweatshirt, sweater, shirt, or coveralls.
 3. This section is not applicable to a person who is legally hunting with a raptor.
