Terms Used In Iowa Code 642.1
- clerk: means clerk of the court in which the action or proceeding is brought or is pending; and the words "clerk's office" mean the office of that clerk. See Iowa Code 4.1
- Decedent: A deceased person.
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Docket: A log containing brief entries of court proceedings.
642.1 Who may be garnished.
A sheriff may be garnished for money of the defendant in the sheriff’s hands; a judgment
debtor of the defendant, when the judgment has not been assigned on the record, or by writing filed in the office of the clerk and by the clerk minuted as an assignment on the margin of the judgment docket; and an executor, for money due from decedent.
