Iowa Code 708.3 – Assault while participating in a felony

Any person who commits an assault as defined in section 708.1 while participating in a felony other than a sexual abuse is guilty of:

1. A class “C” felony if the person thereby causes serious injury to any person.

Under the Iowa Code, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:

Class	Prison	Fine
Class C felony	up to 10 years	between $1,370 and $13,660
Class D felony	up to 5 years	between $1,025 and $10,245

person: means individual, corporation, limited liability company, government or governmental subdivision or agency, business trust, estate, trust, partnership or association, or any other legal entity. See Iowa Code 4.1

2. A class “D” felony if no serious injury results.
