Under the Iowa Code, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:| Class | Prison | Fine |

Any public officer who fails to perform any duty required by this chapter or who does any act prohibited by this chapter, where no other penalty is provided, shall be guilty of a simple misdemeanor.
