Terms Used In Iowa Code > Chapter 481B - Endangered Plants and Wildlife

  • Commission: means the natural resource commission. See Iowa Code 481B.1
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Department: means the department of natural resources. See Iowa Code 462A.2
  • Director: means the director of the department of natural resources. See Iowa Code 481B.1
  • Endangered species: means any species of fish, plant life, or wildlife which is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant part of its range. See Iowa Code 481B.1
  • Fish or wildlife: means any member of the animal kingdom, including any mammal, fish, amphibian, mollusk, crustacean, arthropod, or other invertebrate, and includes any part, product, egg, or offspring, or the dead body of parts thereof. See Iowa Code 481B.1
  • following: when used by way of reference to a chapter or other part of a statute mean the next preceding or next following chapter or other part. See Iowa Code 4.1
  • Import: means to bring into, or introduce into, or attempt to bring into, or attempt to introduce into, any place subject to the jurisdiction of this state. See Iowa Code 481B.1
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Person: means person as defined in section 4. See Iowa Code 481B.1
  • plant life: means any member of the plant kingdom, including seeds, roots, and other parts thereof. See Iowa Code 481B.1
  • property: includes personal and real property. See Iowa Code 4.1
  • Rule: includes "regulation". See Iowa Code 4.1
  • Species: includes any subspecies of fish, plant life, or wildlife and any other group of fish, plants, or wildlife of the same species or smaller taxa in common spatial arrangement that interbreed or cross-pollinate when mature. See Iowa Code 481B.1
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" may include the said district and territories. See Iowa Code 4.1
  • Threatened species: means any species which is likely to become an endangered species within the foreseeable future throughout all or a significant portion of its range. See Iowa Code 481B.1
  • United States: includes all the states. See Iowa Code 4.1
