  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

The trial of the issues in any action brought under this act shall be by the court in which it is brought, and such court is authorized to enter such judgment and decree on default, or after trial, as the case may be, as in other civil actions, as the facts proved may warrant; and except as in this case provided, such trial and the proceedings therein, both before and after judgment, shall be governed by the rules of practice of the said code of civil procedure.
