Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 55-607

  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

In addition to any penalty that may be imposed by the corporation commission, any person, firm or corporation, or any officer, agent or employee thereof, directly or indirectly, violating the provisions of this act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof in a court of competent jurisdiction shall be punished by a fine in any sum not to exceed five thousand dollars ($5,000), or by imprisonment in the county jail not to exceed thirty (30) days, or by both fine and imprisonment.
