The court shall give preference to people who meet the following qualifications when appointing a person as guardian or conservator:
(1) Kinship to respondent;

  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.

(2) Education and business experience of applicant; (3) Capability to handle financial affairs; and
(4) Ability to carry out the requirements set forth in KRS § 387.660 to KRS § 387.710 and
387.750.
