Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:88
- Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
- person: includes a body of persons, whether incorporated or not. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 1:10
The term “appearance bond” shall be taken and intended to mean every bail bond, recognizance, or other obligation, or deposit of cash, checks, negotiable bonds, or money orders, made or taken to secure the appearance of any person before any court; but in all cases where cash, checks, negotiable securities or money orders, or other movables have been deposited in lieu of bond with a surety, in case of discharge or forfeiture, the same shall be disposed of as otherwise provided by law.
