Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 17:2990.4

  • Nonpublic school: means any nonprofit elementary or secondary school within the state of Louisiana or which may hereafter be established within the state of Louisiana, offering education to the children of this state in any grades from grades one through twelve, wherein a pupil may fulfill the requirements of the Compulsory School Attendance Law and is in compliance with the Civil Rights Acts of 1964. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 17:2990.2

The superintendent of education, or a person or persons duly appointed by him, shall administer the provisions of this chapter.  Said administration shall be as simplified as is possible.  Assistance shall be given upon:

(1)  The parent submitting a paid receipt showing payment of tuition for the current school year to a nonpublic school in excess of $75.00 per child in grades 1 through 8, or in excess of $100.00 per child in grades 9 through 12, and

(2)  a copy of the parents’ previous year’s state and/or federal income tax return, as the superintendent of education may determine in administering this act, showing that the requirements of La. Rev. Stat. 17:2990.3(2) are met.
