  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

In the event that the civil service of any city pursuant to the city civil service provisions of Part I of La. Const. Art. X of Louisiana is determined by a final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction to not be subject to such provisions, the civil service of the city shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the state civil service system.
