Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 33:423.24

  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.

Notwithstanding the provisions of La. Rev. Stat. 33:423 or any other provision of law to the contrary, in and for the city of Kaplan, the chief of police shall appoint, promote, discipline, and dismiss police personnel subject to the budgetary limitations of the mayor and the board of aldermen pertaining to the number of allotted positions for the police department.  This provision shall not, however, prohibit a police department employee from making a direct appeal to the city of Kaplan’s civil service board.
