Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 33:423.5

  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.

Notwithstanding the provisions of La. Rev. Stat. 33:423 or any other law to the contrary, in and for the city of Scott, the chief of police shall appoint, promote, discipline, and dismiss police personnel subject to the budgetary limitations of the mayor and board of aldermen, pertaining to the number of allotted positions of the police department.  This provision shall not, however, prohibit a police department employee from making a direct appeal to the board of aldermen, who shall have the authority to modify or reverse any actions of the chief of police.
