Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 14 Sec. 5943

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
The term “court” means the Superior Court or the District Court of this State. The making of an agreement described in section 5927 providing for arbitration in this State confers jurisdiction on the court to enforce the agreement under this chapter and to enter judgment on an award under the agreement.
