1. Tuition. A school administrative unit may charge the students a tuition for enrollment in a summer school.

Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 8802

  • School administrative unit: means the state-approved unit of school administration and includes a municipal school unit, school administrative district, community school district, regional school unit or any other municipal or quasi-municipal corporation responsible for operating or constructing public schools, except that it does not include a career and technical education region. 2. Maximum amount. Tuition may not exceed the following:
A. In the first summer of its operation, an estimated cost for each student based on estimated costs to operate the summer school program divided by the estimated number of students expected to attend the summer school program; [PL 2011, c. 678, Pt. G, §1 (AMD).]
B. When a summer school is operated for 2 or more school administrative units and is operated alternately by a different unit each summer, the cost for each student for the preceding summer; and [PL 1981, c. 693, §§ 5, 8 (NEW).]
C. In all other cases, the cost for each student for the preceding summer. [PL 1981, c. 693, §§ 5, 8 (NEW).]

3. Equality. Tuition in a summer school shall be the same for all students who are Maine residents.
