Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes > Title 20-A > Part 2 > Chapter 103 - School Administrative Districts

Accredited: means an educational institution that is approved by the United States Department of Education or a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521
Acquittal:
1. Judgement that a criminal defendant has not been proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
2. A verdict of "not guilty."
Adjourn: A motion to adjourn a legislative chamber or a committee, if passed, ends that day's session.
Adjudication: means a finding by a court that a person has committed a traffic infraction and includes the acceptance by the clerk of the violations bureau or any judicial division of an answer of not contested. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101
Agent: means a principal corporate officer, partner, owner or majority shareholder of a contract security company or a resident of the State who manages or supervises the security guard business of a resident or nonresident contract security company within the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403
Alcohol and drug program: means the alcohol and other drug education, evaluation and treatment program administered by the Department of Health and Human Services under Title 5, chapter 521, subchapter 5. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401
Alcohol level: means either grams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood or grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401
Allegation: something that someone says happened.
American Sign Language proficiency interview: means a holistic language evaluation that is used to determine global American Sign Language proficiency and that is administered by an educational testing service organization and evaluated by an American Sign Language evaluation service organization recognized by the director. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521
Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
Armored car service: means the service provided by any person transporting or offering to transport, under armed security guard, currency, jewels, stocks, bonds, paintings or other things of value in a motor vehicle specially equipped to offer a high degree of security. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403
Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
Attachment: A procedure by which a person's property is seized to pay judgments levied by the court.
Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
Baitfish: means only those species in the following list:

Board: means any authority, board, commission, committee, council and similar organization, including independent organizations, established or authorized by the Legislature to fulfill specific functions the members of which do not serve full time. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 12002

Board: means the Board of Licensure of Professional Investigators under section 8103?A, as established under Title 5, section 12004?G, subsection 29?D. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 8103

Board: means the Kim Wallace Adaptive Equipment Loan Program Fund Board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 371

Board: means the Small Enterprise Growth Board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 382

Board of directors: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a school administrative district. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Bond: means a revenue obligation security, bond, note, debenture, certificate or other evidence of indebtedness of the State or any political subdivision of the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 361

Bureau: means the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2

Bureau: means the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Bus: means a motor vehicle designed for carrying more than 15 persons, including the operator. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Carryforward: means that portion of the state ceiling for any calendar year which is unallocated to specific bond issues during that calendar year and which is available to be carried forward to be used in later years under the United States Code, Title 26. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 361

Certificate of approval holder: means :

Chief: means the Chief of the State Police or the chief's designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 8103

Chief judge: The judge who has primary responsibility for the administration of a court but also decides cases; chief judges are determined by seniority.

Commercial meet: means harness horse racing conducted live at a commercial track. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Commercial motor vehicle: means a motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles used in commerce to transport passengers or property if the motor vehicle:

Commercial track: means any harness horse racing track that is a for-profit business and is licensed under this chapter to conduct harness horse racing with pari-mutuel wagering that is not associated with an agricultural fair as defined in Title 7, section 81 and that:

commingled pool: means a pool in which wagers placed at more than one location are merged for purposes of determining the payout on winning wagers. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Education or the commissioner's designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Public Safety. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1371

Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Public Safety. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Public Safety or a designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Committee membership: Legislators are assigned to specific committees by their party. Seniority, regional balance, and political philosophy are the most prominent factors in the committee assignment process.

Competitive procurement: means the transmission of a written request for proposal, written request for qualifications or other invitation to compete on price or qualifications to at least 3 responsible suppliers that is to be replied to at a stated time. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 12021

Conditional license: means a license granted to an applicant who has met the requirements of section 1524?C but who is not certified with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521

Continuance: Putting off of a hearing ot trial until a later time.

Contract security company: means any person engaged in the business of providing, or who undertakes to provide, a security guard for another person. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Contributions: means payments for membership dues and fees, gifts, donations and sponsorships, including those that result in public advertisement of the entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 12021

Dangerous substance: means alcohol or any substance that is a schedule W, X, Y or Z drug under Title 17?A, chapter 45. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Deaf interpreter: means a person whose sense of hearing is nonfunctional for the purpose of communication, whose primary means of communication is visual or tactile and who provides intermediary interpreting. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521

Deaf person: means a person whose sense of hearing is nonfunctional for the purpose of communication and whose primary means of communication is visual or tactile. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521

Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.

Defense attorney: Represent defendants in criminal matters.

Department: means the Department of Education. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Department: means the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521

Department: means the Department of Transportation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Department: means the Department of Public Safety. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Department: means the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Director: means the Director of the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation within the department. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521

Display: includes a special effects display. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Domestic partner: means one of 2 unmarried adults who are domiciled together under long-term arrangements that evidence a commitment to remain responsible indefinitely for each other's welfare. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Drug user: means a person who uses any dangerous substance in violation of any law of the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Drug-dependent person: means a person who is unable to function effectively and whose inability to do so results from the use of a dangerous substance. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

drugs: includes any natural or artificial chemical substance that, when taken into the human body, can impair the ability of the person to safely operate a motor vehicle. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401

Employee: means a natural person who performs one or more security guard functions under a contract of hire between the natural person and a contract security company or between the natural person and a proprietary security organization. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

entity: means :

Exotic wagers: means wagers in which the bettor selects 2 or more horses in one or more races in a single wager. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Extended meet: means a series of harness horse races, except harness horse races conducted by an agricultural society at the time of its annual fair. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

failed to submit to a test: means failure to comply with the duty to submit to and complete a chemical test under section 2521 or 2525. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401

Federal formula: means the formula or formulas for allocation of the state ceiling now or hereafter established under the United States Code, Title 26. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 361

Fire sprinkler system: means an assembly of overhead piping or conduits that conveys water with or without other agents to dispersal openings or devices to extinguish, control or contain fire and to provide protection from exposure to fire or the products of combustion, planned in accordance with a national or state standard. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1371

Fireworks: means any:

Fireworks technician: means a person licensed pursuant to section 231 who, by examination, experience and training, has demonstrated the required skill and competence in the use and discharge of fireworks to conduct a display or special effects display. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Flame effect: means an effect caused by the use of a solid, liquid or gaseous fuel to produce a flame in front of an audience. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Flame effect technician: means a person licensed pursuant to section 231 who, by examination, experience and training, has demonstrated the required skill and competence in the use of flame effects to conduct a display or special effects display. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Foreclosure: A legal process in which property that is collateral or security for a loan may be sold to help repay the loan when the loan is in default. ^{Source: OCC}

Formal charging instrument: means a complaint, indictment, information, juvenile petition or other formal written accusation against a person for some criminal or juvenile offense. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.

Fund: means the Small Enterprise Growth Fund. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 382

Governing body: means a person or group of persons with the responsibility or authority to manage an entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 12021

Grand jury: agreement providing that a lender will delay exercising its rights (in the case of a mortgage,

Hard-of-hearing person: means a person who has a functional hearing deficit, who may or may not primarily use visual communication and who may or may not use assistive devices. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521

highway: means a public way. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Ignition interlock device: means a device that connects a breath analyzer to a motor vehicle's ignition system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401

Indictment: The formal charge issued by a grand jury stating that there is enough evidence that the defendant committed the crime to justify having a trial; it is used primarily for felonies.

Interest rate: The amount paid by a borrower to a lender in exchange for the use of the lender's money for a certain period of time. Interest is paid on loans or on debt instruments, such as notes or bonds, either at regular intervals or as part of a lump sum payment when the issue matures. ^{Source: OCC}

Interpreter: means a person who provides any of the following services:

Interpreting: means the process when a linguistic intermediary between a deaf or hard-of-hearing person and another person translates the spoken utterances or signs, gestures or writing of either person into a linguistic form other than that which that person uses as a primary and preferred form of communication. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521

Investigative assistant: means a person who acts as a professional investigator under the supervision of a licensed professional investigator in accordance with this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 8103

Joint meeting: An occasion, often ceremonial, when the House and Senate each adopt a unanimous consent agreement

Juror: A person who is on the jury.

Kindergarten: means a one-year or 2-year childhood education program, for children at least 5 years of age, immediately prior to grade one. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Law enforcement officer: means a person who by virtue of public employment is vested by law with a duty to maintain public order or to make arrests for crimes, whether that duty extends to all crimes or is limited to specific crimes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

License: means the document issued by the commissioner to a contractor authorizing the contractor to engage in the fire sprinkler system business in this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1371

License: includes , but is not limited to, a nonresident operating privilege and the privilege of a person to apply for or obtain a license or permit to operate a motor vehicle. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Licensee: includes , but is not limited to, agency liquor stores and certificate of approval holders. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2

Licensee: means any person licensed under this chapter as a professional investigator or investigative assistant. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 8103

Licensee: means any person to whom a license is granted in accordance with this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Licensee: means a person licensed under section 271 or section 275?D to conduct pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing in this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Licensing authority: means the Commissioner of Public Safety. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Liquor: means spirits, wine, malt liquor or hard cider, or any substance containing liquor, intended for human consumption, that contains more than 1/2 of 1% of alcohol by volume. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2

Managing director: means the person with overall day-to-day responsibility for directing the operations of a quasi-independent state entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 12021

Membership: means active participation in the program of a school from the date of enrollment to the time the student withdraws or is absent from the school for 10 consecutive days for reasons other than illness. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 15001

Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.

Motor carrier: means a contract carrier, a common carrier or a private carrier of property or passengers by motor vehicle. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Motor vehicle: means a self-propelled vehicle not operated exclusively on railroad tracks, but does not include:

Motor vehicle violation: means a violation of this Title. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Net commission: means the total commission less 4% of the amount wagered. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Nolo contendere: No contest-has the same effect as a plea of guilty, as far as the criminal sentence is concerned, but may not be considered as an admission of guilt for any other purpose.

Nonresident: means a person whose legal residence is not in the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

OAS: means to operate after the Secretary of State or a court has suspended the driver's license. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401

Off-track betting facility: means a facility other than a racetrack at which a person is licensed to conduct pari-mutuel wagering on simulcast racing. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Off-track betting licensee: means a person who has obtained a license to conduct pari-mutuel wagering at an off-track betting facility. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Operator: means an individual who drives or is in control of a vehicle or who is exercising control over or steering a towed vehicle. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

OUI: means operating under the influence of intoxicants or with an excessive alcohol level under section 2411, 2453, 2453?A, 2454, 2456, 2457 or 2472. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401

OUI conviction: means a conviction for:

OUI offense: means an OUI conviction or suspension for failure to submit to a test. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401

Owner: means a person holding title to a vehicle or having exclusive right to the use of the vehicle for a period of 30 days or more. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Parking area: means an area designed for use as access or parking for patrons and customers of establishments to which the public is invited. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Permit: means the nontransferable permission granted by the commissioner pursuant to section 227?A to hold a display. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Person: means an individual, corporation, firm, partnership, joint venture, association, fiduciary, trust, estate or any other legal or commercial entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Person: means any natural person, firm, association, partnership, corporation, government agency or subdivision, or any employee or agent thereof. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 8103

Person: means an individual, partnership, corporation, firm, association or other legal entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2

Person: means any natural person, firm, association, organization, partnership, corporation or any employee or agent thereof. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Person: means any individual, combination of individuals, association, municipality, amusement park or other legal or commercial entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Person with substance use disorder: means a drug-dependent person who due to the use of a dangerous substance has developed such a tolerance to the substance that abrupt termination of the use of the substance would produce withdrawal symptoms. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court.

Plea agreement: An arrangement between the prosecutor, the defense attorney, and the defendant in which the defendant agrees to plead guilty in exchange for special considerations. ^Source:

Possession: means the intentional or knowing possession of what the possessor knows or believes to be fireworks. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Preliminary hearing: A hearing where the judge decides whether there is enough evidence to make the defendant have a trial.

Premises: includes the place where an incorporated civic organization sells or serves spirits, wine and malt liquor under a license obtained under section 1071. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2

Principal: means the person who supervises the operation and management of a school and school property as determined necessary by the superintendent under policies established by the school board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Principal corporate officer: means the president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, clerk and comptroller, as well as any other person who performs functions for the corporation corresponding to those performed by the other officers enumerated in this subsection. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Private investigation: means for any consideration whatsoever, to agree to obtain, or to in fact obtain information with reference to any of the following:

Private school: means an academy, seminary, institute or other private corporation or body formed for educational purposes covering kindergarten through grade 12 or any portion thereof. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Probable cause: A reasonable ground for belief that the offender violated a specific law.

Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.

Probation officers: Screen applicants for pretrial release and monitor convicted offenders released under court supervision.

Professional investigator: means any person who engages in or solicits business or accepts employment to conduct private investigations. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 8103

Program: means the Small Enterprise Growth Program, which encompasses the Small Enterprise Growth Fund and any side fund created by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 382

Program funds: means the Small Enterprise Growth Fund and any side funds created by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 382

Proprietary security organization: means any organization or department of that organization which provides fulltime security guards solely for itself. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government.

Proximate audience technician: means a person licensed pursuant to section 231 who, by examination, experience and training, has demonstrated the required skill and competence in the use and discharge of fireworks proximate to an audience to conduct a display or special effects display proximate to an audience. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A

Public law: A public bill or joint resolution that has passed both chambers and been enacted into law. Public laws have general applicability nationwide.

Public school: means a school that is governed by a school board of a school administrative unit and funded primarily with public funds. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Public way: means a way, owned and maintained by the State, a county or a municipality, over which the general public has a right to pass. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Pupil: means elementary or secondary school student. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 15001

Qualifying borrower: means any individual, for-profit or nonprofit corporation or partnership which demonstrates that the loan will assist one or more persons with disabilities to improve their independence or become more productive members of the community. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 371

Qualifying small business: means , for the purpose of an initial disbursement by the board under section 388, a business employing 50 or fewer employees or having gross sales not exceeding $5,000,000 within the most recent 12 months for which financial statements are available. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 382

Qualifying venture fund: means a venture capital fund that is managed by an entity other than the board and that the board finds demonstrates the potential to contribute venture capital funding in a manner that promotes economic growth in the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 382

Quasi-independent state entity: means an organization that has been established by the Legislature as an independent board, commission or agency to fulfill governmental purposes and that receives revenues that are derived, in whole or part, from federal or state taxes or fees. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 12021

Race date: means a scheduled date awarded by the commission pursuant to section 271 for which there is a racing program of not less than 8 separate live races. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Race day: means a scheduled day of racing awarded by the commission pursuant to section 271 on which racing occurred. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Racing licensee: means a person who is authorized under section 271 to conduct harness horse racing in this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Reckless or negligent conduct: means that the applicant, either consciously disregarding or failing to be aware of a risk that his conduct would cause such a result, engaged in conduct which in fact created a substantial risk of either death, serious bodily injury, bodily injury or offensive physical contact to another human being or the taking of, or damage or destruction to, the property of another person or government, and the applicant's disregard or failure to be aware of that risk, when viewed in light of the nature and purpose of the applicant's conduct and the circumstances known to him, involved a deviation from the standard of conduct that a reasonable and prudent person would observe in the same situation. Regional school unit: means the state-approved unit of school administration as established pursuant to chapter 103?A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

registered mail: when used in connection with any requirement for notice by mail shall mean either registered mail or certified mail. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Registration: means the registration certificate, plates and renewal devices pertaining to the registration of a vehicle, including temporary registered gross weight increases. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Regular meeting: means the period of time from the first date a licensee is authorized to conduct live racing through the last date a licensee is authorized to conduct live racing, excluding periods of time longer than 14 days when the licensee is not authorized to conduct live racing. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Regular wagers: means wagers other than exotic wagers. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 275-A

Resident: means a person who has declared or established residency in this State or has been domiciled in this State for a period of at least 30 days, except for persons in compliance with section 109, subsection 1. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

School administrative district: means a state-approved unit of school administration, composed of one or more municipalities which must provide public education to all public school students in the district. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

School administrative unit: means the state-approved unit of school administration and includes a municipal school unit, school administrative district, community school district, regional school unit or any other municipal or quasi-municipal corporation responsible for operating or constructing public schools, except that it does not include a career and technical education region. School board: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a school administrative unit. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Secondary school: means that portion of a school that provides instruction in any combination of grades 9 through 12. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Security guard: means any person who, for any consideration whatsoever, performs any of the following functions:

Security system: means equipment designed to detect or signal an unauthorized intrusion to which security guards are expected to respond. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Side fund: means a fund other than the Small Enterprise Growth Fund administered by the board that is invested as determined by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 382

Solid waste energy project: means a project designed to convert solid waste to electricity or steam. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 361

State board: means the State Board of Education. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

State ceiling: means the annual dollar volume cap on the issuance of tax-exempt bonds now or hereafter imposed on the State and its agencies and governmental subdivisions by the United States Code, Title 26. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 361

State valuation: means the value certified to the Secretary of State as provided in Title 36, section 305, subsection 1. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Street patrol service: means any contract security company or proprietary security organization utilizing foot patrols, motor vehicles or any other means of transportation on public thoroughfares as security guards. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 9403

Subdistrict: means a geographic area which is a subdivision of a school administrative district for election purposes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.

Superintendent: means the person in a school administrative unit or school union appointed and having the authority and responsibility under this Title and other applicable statutes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Tax-exempt bond: means a bond the interest on which is not included in the gross income of the owners for federal income tax purposes pursuant to the United States Code, title 26, § 103. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 361

test: means a test or tests used to determine alcohol level or the presence of a drug or drug metabolite by analysis of blood, breath or urine. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401

Testify: Answer questions in court.

Tort: A civil wrong or breach of a duty to another person, as outlined by law. A very common tort is negligent operation of a motor vehicle that results in property damage and personal injury in an automobile accident.

Town: includes cities and plantations, unless otherwise expressed or implied. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Traffic: means pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles, bicycles and other conveyances either singly or together using public way for travel. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Traffic infraction: means any violation of any provision of this Title, or of any rules established under this Title, not expressly defined as a crime or as a civil violation and otherwise not punishable by incarceration. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Transcript: A written, word-for-word record of what was said, either in a proceeding such as a trial or during some other conversation, as in a transcript of a hearing or oral deposition.

Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

Trust account: A general term that covers all types of accounts in a trust department, such as estates, guardianships, and agencies. ^{Source: OCC}

Under the influence of intoxicants: means being under the influence of alcohol, a drug other than alcohol, a combination of drugs or a combination of alcohol and drugs. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2401

Vehicle: means a device for conveyance of persons or property on a way. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.

Verdict: The decision of a petit jury or a judge.

Way: means the entire width between boundary lines of a road, highway, parkway, street or bridge used for vehicular traffic, whether public or private. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101

Wholesale licensee: means a person licensed by the bureau under section 1401 as an in-state wholesaler. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2
