Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 227

  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Person: means an individual, corporation, partnership, joint venture, trust, estate or unincorporated association. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • registered mail: when used in connection with any requirement for notice by mail shall mean either registered mail or certified mail. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
  • Superintendent: means the Superintendent of Financial Institutions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
The superintendent shall have the power and authority to summon persons and subpoena witnesses, compel their attendance, require production of evidence, administer oaths and examine any person under oath in connection with any subject related to the supervision and regulation of financial institutions. Any summons or subpoena may be served by registered mail with return receipt. Powers granted under this section may be enforced by the Superior Court. [PL 1975, c. 500, §1 (NEW).]
