  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Tax: means a tax, interest, or penalty levied under this act. See Michigan Laws 207.1006
   In January of each year, there is appropriated from the proceeds of the tax levied by this act up to $3,500,000.00, that shall be used to pay the principal, interest, and incidental costs for the outstanding bonds, previously issued by the Mackinac bridge authority. The unexpended amount shall lapse to the Michigan transportation fund at the end of each fiscal year. Upon retirement of all outstanding bonds and any refunding bonds hereafter issued, this appropriation shall cease.
