Terms Used In Michigan Laws 287.112

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Department: means the department of agriculture. See Michigan Laws 287.111
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
  • Riding stable: means any establishment in which, for business purposes, 6 or more horses or ponies are rented, hired, or loaned for riding. See Michigan Laws 287.111
  • Sales barn: means any establishment where horses or ponies owned by others are sold or offered for sale. See Michigan Laws 287.111
   A person, firm, or corporation shall not own or operate a riding stable or sales barn without first having obtained a license under this act. The department shall enforce this act and shall promulgate rules therefor in accordance with and subject to Act No. 306 of the Public Acts of 1969, as amended, being section 24.201 to 24.315 of the Michigan Compiled Laws. The department may designate veterinarians, qualified agents of humane societies, and other qualified persons to serve as its agents in carrying out duties imposed under this act. Horse auction sales presently licensed under Act No. 284 of the Public Acts of 1937, as amended, being section 287.121 to 287.131 of the Michigan Compiled Laws, are exempt from the provisions of this act.
