  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Health insurance policy: means an expense-incurred hospital, medical, or surgical policy, certificate, or contract. See Michigan Laws 500.608
  • Health maintenance organization: means that term as defined in section 3501. See Michigan Laws 500.106
  • Insurer: means an individual, corporation, association, partnership, reciprocal exchange, inter-insurer, Lloyds organization, fraternal benefit society, or other legal entity, engaged or attempting to engage in the business of making insurance or surety contracts. See Michigan Laws 500.106
  • Precedent: A court decision in an earlier case with facts and law similar to a dispute currently before a court. Precedent will ordinarily govern the decision of a later similar case, unless a party can show that it was wrongly decided or that it differed in some significant way.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.   An insurer that delivers, issues for delivery, or renews in this state a health insurance policy issued under chapter 34 or a health maintenance organization that issues a health maintenance contract under chapter 35 shall not require as the sole condition precedent to the payment or reimbursement of a claim under the policy or contract that an allopathic or osteopathic physician in the medical specialties of family practice, internal medicine, or pediatrics maintain a national or regional certification not otherwise specifically required for licensure under article 15 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.16101 to 333.18838.
