Terms Used In Michigan Laws 78.20

  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.    If the charter or any amendment thereto, whether of villages incorporated under this act or under an existing charter of the village heretofore granted or passed by the legislature for the government of a village, be approved, then 2 printed copies thereof, with the vote for and against, duly certified by the village clerk, shall, within 30 days after the vote is taken, be filed with the secretary of state, and a like number with the county clerk, and shall thereupon become law.
