Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 153:12

  • bylaw: when used in reference to legislative action taken by a city, town, county or village district shall have the same meaning as an ordinance and shall be subject to the same procedures for enactment. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:45
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • state: when applied to different parts of the United States, may extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall include said district and territories. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:4
Any fire chief may request the state fire marshal at any time to assist him in ascertaining the cause, origin and circumstances relative to any fire within his territorial jurisdiction, or to assist, advise or counsel him in supervising and monitoring any local law, bylaw or ordinance promulgated by such city, town, village district or precinct within the intent and scope of this chapter.
