- state: when applied to different parts of the United States, may extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall include said district and territories. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:4
Subject to the state personnel regulations, and within the limits of available appropriations and funds, the department of safety shall furnish such additional clerical and secretarial assistants as may be necessary to carry out the duties and functions of the state fire marshal.
