The director shall establish a procedure for the external visual examination for rust of private passenger vehicles and light trucks during the inspection required by N.H. Rev. Stat. § 266:1. The procedure shall include requirements for further examination if substantial rust is observed. No private passenger vehicle or light truck shall pass the inspection requirements of N.H. Rev. Stat. § 266:1 if the procedure reveals any of the following:
I. Rust that permits exhaust gases to enter the passenger or cargo compartment.

Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 266:3-a

  • Director: shall mean the director of the division of motor vehicles of the department of safety. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:20
  • following: when used by way of reference to any section of these laws, shall mean the section next preceding or following that in which such reference is made, unless some other is expressly designated. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:13
  • Light truck: shall mean any motor truck having no more than 2 axles. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:50
  • Private passenger vehicle: shall mean a motor vehicle, except motorcycles, tractors, snowmobiles, OHRV's and mopeds, which is designed and used for the purpose of transporting 10 persons or less and used for the transportation of human beings with their necessary personal belongings, and not exceeding 8,000 pounds in gross vehicle weight. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:81
  • Vehicle: shall mean :
    I. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:122

II. Any metal or any loose or dislocated parts protruding from the surface of the vehicle so as to create a hazard.
III. A bumper that is rusted so that it is not firmly attached or that has broken or torn portions protruding from the surface so as to create a hazard.
IV. A frame that is not in solid condition.
