Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 597:18

  • Arraignment: A proceeding in which an individual who is accused of committing a crime is brought into court, told of the charges, and asked to plead guilty or not guilty.
  • Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies corporate and politic as well as to individuals. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:9
On application of a person who is arrested for a bailable offense, at any time before his arraignment therefor, any commissioner may fix the amount of and receive bail in the same manner as the court might do, except in cases provided for by N.H. Rev. Stat. § 597:4.
