Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 17:16C-56

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. (a) Any person conducting business under this act and any director, officer, partner, member, employee, agent, or representative thereof who shall knowingly violate any provision of this act or shall directly or indirectly counsel, aid or abet such violation shall be liable to a penalty of not more than $500.00 for each offense.

(b) The penalties provided for by this act shall be sued for and recovered by and in the name of the commissioner and shall be collected and enforced by summary proceedings pursuant to the Penalty Enforcement Law (N.J.S. 2A:58-1 et seq.).
