Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 17:29A-55

  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 2. As used in this act:

“Certificate of insurance” means a document or instrument, regardless of how titled or described, that is prepared or issued by an insurer or insurance producer as evidence of property or casualty insurance coverage. The term shall not include a policy of insurance, insurance binder, policy endorsement, or automobile insurance identification or information card.

“Commissioner” means the Commissioner of Banking and Insurance.

“Insurance producer” means a person required to be licensed pursuant to the “New Jersey Insurance Producer Licensing Act of 2001,” P.L.2001, c.210 (C. 17:22A-26 et seq.).

“Insurer” means any organization that issues property or casualty insurance.
